Reconstruction, an Overview

Description of Lesson: Students will use the attached information, along with their acquired background, to discuss in Padeia groups the questions attached (guideline). Recorder in each group will monitor and record responses of members through use of a Padeia contribution sheet. Finally, student groups will summarize on a poster or PowerPoint slide their discussions and outcomes for sharing with the class. Maximum members of Padeia group: six (6) each, mixed racially and by gender.

Description of Lesson: The Thirteenth Amendment freed blacks from slavery, yet for almost 100 years afterwards, the black person still struggled to gain the equality promised them in 1865. Jim Crow laws were passed to legalize segregation; this took place in public waiting rooms, schools, restaurants and hospitals. We will take a look at some of these laws.
