February 25 & 26, 2012 at Moores Creek National Battlefield

Moores Creek National Battlefield will be hold its
236th Anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge February 25 and 26.  

During this weekend guest speakers will lecture about events related to colonial life in North Carolina, and events surrounding the American Revolution in Southeast North Carolina.

• UNCW- Dr. Alan Watson (Diseases and the Protection of Health in Colonial North Carolina- with an emphasis on smallpox)
• CFCC- Thomas Massey (African Americans in Colonial North Carolina)
  
• SECC- Paul Van Gilder (Rev. War in the South)
  
• Brunswick Town- Jim McKee (Connection between Brunswick Town and the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge)
• State Historic Sites- Michelle Lanier (Gullah-Geechee Culture,) Peter MacArthur (Scottish Bagpipe w/ History), Madison Stewart (Scottish Battle Dance)

Upcoming Workshop: February 11, 2011

The  next workshop will be on Saturday, February 11 at UNCW in the Madeline Suite from 8am to 2pm. Dr. Liz Hines will be presenting " Jim Crow Laws." She will be covering information from the two books that grant participants have read: The Strange Career of Jim Crow and Ballots and Fence Rails.

The pedagogy presenter will be the 2010-2011 NC State Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Facciolini. Please arrive by 8 am so that we can get started on time. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

If you have an iPad, please bring it that day so we can check it back in.  Also, please return any Traveling Trunks on this day.

The spring online course/discussion with Dr. Diana Pasulka will begin January 27, 2012. You will be able to access the course by logging in as usual to the Blackboard site and selecting the Spring 2012 course.

Due February 27, 2012

The next lesson plan is due Monday, February 27th. Please start working on them now so that you can turn them in by the deadline. It is very important for these to be turned in on time so that Thomas and Suzanne can give you timely feedback.

Year 3 of Teaching American History in North Carolina will cover objectives from the North Carolina Social Studies Standard Course of Study for Eighth grade Social Studies and U.S. History.
