Historical Windshield Geographer

Description of Lesson: Using videos, photographs, and oral interviews, students will capture local cultural landscapes that defines the region in which they live. Students will drive and walk around historical Wilmington/Burgaw observing and capturing the material culture: churches, houses, monuments, and place names. They will answer the question: Who has settled here? They will use their videos and photographs to analyze and determine the history of their local area. They will put this information into a visual presentation to provide the class a historical lesson of the local area.
Pearl Harbor Attack

Description of Lesson: Begin lesson with clip from film “Pearl Harbor” showing attack. Briefly discuss clip. Use website http://pearlharbor.org/
history/casualties/pearl-harbor-casualties to analyze destruction from attack. In groups of 3-4 read primary sources provided by teacher Groups then create an informative pamphlet based on readings and website analysis. Homework: Each student must write 1-2 page reflection essay.
